typos lead to weird discoveries

I accidentally went to liasynthis.blogpot.com and found this site about the bible. Weird.

Colors for the baby's room

We've finally chosen the colors for the baby's room. I'm sure I'll post a photo once the whole thing's done. These colors are Garden Clogs and Cameo, Martha Stewart colors from Sherwin Williams, but we'll get them made in Benjamin Moore.

Gift Failure

Last night I tried to make a Martha Stewart cookie recipe to hand out as gifts for my co-workers. True to Martha Stewart (I think) one, very very important step, was left out. Here's what I tried to make:

No. 1: Stained Glass (above, top left)
These gift tag-inspired cookies make great gifts themselves. After punching out the letter and hole for the tie (use a straw to create the hole), prebake them for 6 to 8 minutes, until they look a little dry on top. Then sprinkle crushed hard candy generously in the window of the letter. (We tried a bunch of different kinds, and jolly ranchers won out with bright, smooth colors that distributed evenly.) Return cookies to the oven and watch like a hawk: The candy should melt and pool in the window, but not burn, usually in about 3 minutes.

Prep and and photo from the Martha Stewart website.

A photo of my disastrous results to come.

Oh, and the step that was left out, is to bake your cookies on wax or parchment paper...not directly on the pan.

Preggatini?

the Liquid Muse publishes Preggatinis extolling the joy of non-alchoholic drinks for those of us who are pregnant. Maybe they're fun but they can't be as fun as a real martini. As seen on Gawker.

Taking Things Seriously

WNYC's "The Leonard Lopate Show" is inviting people to post photos of personally meaningful objects and the
stories related to them to the "Taking Things Seriously" Flickr feed.

Deadline to post is Dec. 19 at noon. Lopate will talk about the most interesting submissions on-air on Dec.21, and the show will be available as an mp3 shortly
after.

Read more about Taking Things Seriously on Brainiac or by the book at my favorite bookstore, Powells.

Brilliant Toxic (Britney) cover!

OK, I now love Yael Naim, the French/Israeli folk singer(even if she is reminiscent in this instance of Tori Amos). Hear more on her My Space page or visit her website. Thanks to Matt for introducing me to her work!

I'm excited for...

...Masterpiece theater's The Complete Jane Austen. I love Jane Austen. My sister says I practically danced on Jane Austen's grave when we visited it, I was so excited.

Oooh, I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait

I'm not obsessed with umbrellas

I was looking for an innovative way to wrap cookies (that wouldn't require me to go to any stores) and I discovered this really cool 100% biodegradable, clear, parasol styled umbrella, called the Brelli. When I say I discovered, I mean, I read about it somewhere else...yes, someone else discovered it, namely, the staff at Blueprint. In any case, I had to post it because it is just so great. Perhaps it won't last as long in high winds as the Senz but it is a real umbrella and it sure is nice looking.

Incidentally, I didn't find any way to wrap cookies using already owned household items...yet.

Quest for frozen yogurt

I'm still searching for the perfect frozen yogurt in Boston. You may remember my post about Forty Carrots. I've tried a couple of possible matches to this amazing yogurt flavor but still have not found the perfect one. Last week Michael and I went to dinner in Cambridge and stopped on the way home at BerryLine. I had hoped their "original" flavor would be a match to frogurt, unfortunately, it is a little too sweet. Today I tried the yogurt at Yo! Berry. I had hoped this would be the one but while it was closer to the tartness I have found only at Bloomingdales, the consistency was too icy and it wasn't really sour enough. So sad. The search continues.

Holiday music

All Songs Considered Holiday Mix. Not your average holiday music. Great to listen to while you're pushing through the morning hours...trying to make it to the afternoon holiday office party (when you can go home).

Senz Umbrella

You may remember a post about the Senz umbrella from April of this year. At the time these "indestructible" umbrellas were not available in the states. I'm here to let you all know, they've arrived (just in time for the holidays)! I saw one last night in Lord and Taylor's. Happy Shopping!

Sometimes I wish I lived in NY

The band that played our wedding (The Moonlighters) are playing the at Dances of Vice (a 1920's style caberet night) on December 15th. It sounds like a really great time. So sad to live in Boston and not be able to go to these things (without 4 hour car rides). Listen to The Moonlighters on their My Space page. If you go to the show, let me know how it is.

We're selling furniture

We need room for our baby (that's coming in April) and are trying to sell some of our furniture on Craig's List. So far we sold a dresser. Here's what's left. Get em while they're hot! The table's $100 and the cabinet's $250.
